In 1913 Barcelona, a prominent psychiatrist (Alex Brendemuhl) mysteriously disappears, but not before telling his pregnant wife, Alma (Leonor Watling), not to bother looking for him. She does anyway, enlisting the help of her brother-in-law (Luis Tosar) to track down her husband amid the city's genteel psychiatric society, which is hotly anticipating the arrival of Sigmund Freud.
