Wendell Baker (Luke Wilson) is a con man whose latest scam lands him behind bars, which finally forces his girlfriend, Doreen (Eva Mendes), to dump him. Once Wendell gets out, he vows to never do anything illegal again and hopes to clean up his karma by working at a dilapidated retirement home. Quickly making friends with the elderly residents — Boyd (Seymour Cassel), Skip (Harry Dean Stanton) and Nasher (Kris Kristofferson) — Wendell gets some sage advice on how to win Doreen back as well as get revenge against the home's evil head nurse, Neil King (Owen Wilson).
