Martin Frost (David Thewliss) is a novelist suffering from a bad case of writer's block who retreats to his friend's empty house in the country to get his creative juices flowing again. However, Martin discovers he's not exactly alone when he wakes up next to the beautiful Claire (Irene Jacob) who has mysteriously appeared in his bed. As they begin to fall in love and Martin is happily about to finish his new book, Claire is suddenly stricken with a strange illness. As Claire gets sicker, Martin starts to wonder if his lovely companion is even a flesh-and-blood person or some needed figment of his imagination.
