An old coot by the name of Flagg Purdy (Alan Arkin) has driven away everybody in his life — including his five children — except for his patient, saintly wife (Barbara Dana). Flagg stirs up even more trouble by getting into a battle of epic proportions with his neighbor (Austin Pendleton), who refuses to take the abuse any longer.
