Finn (Anton Yelchin) is a bored teenager stuck living in a cramped Lower East Side apartment with his drug-addicted mom, Liz (Diane Lane). When Finn's dreams of escaping to South Africa to study the Iskanani Indians with the anthropologist father he's never met are crushed, Liz moves him onto the estate of a reclusive billionaire, Ogden C. Osbourne (Donald Sutherland). At first things work out when Finn falls for Ogden's cute daughter, Maya (Kristen Stewart), but the two outsiders eventually learn their place in the world — which is very far beneath their wealthy benefactors.
